Ponatahi Christian School is a Christian school located in Carterton, in the heart of the beautiful Wairarapa. At our school, we seek to honour the Lord by enabling students, through His grace, to serve God and society - a mission that began with the Reformed Congregations of New Zealand in 1978 and continues to this day. We endeavour to be a school that teaches young people according to God’s Word while nurturing them in every respect.
The name Ponatahi means “united in one.” We therefore warmly welcome students whose parents or caregivers are supportive of the special character of our school. We want to learn, serve, and worship God together in unity, fully committing ourselves to the truth of the Bible.
We have a strong focus on our values of Respect, Diligence, Fellowship, Integrity, and Kindness. While we pursue academic excellence, our greater desire is to help students understand how to serve God in every area of their lives and to engage with others in a manner that is respectful and kind. We recognise that each student has been uniquely gifted, and we seek to inspire them to use their talents in both learning and interactions with others for the glory of God and the building of Christ’s Kingdom in this world.
Our mission is based on the words of Psalm 111:10a, The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. The word fear in this context does not speak of being afraid of God; it means that God should be regarded with respect, reverence, and awe. This attitude of humility towards our Creator is the beginning of wisdom. We pray that through our teaching and interactions with our students, they learn to be in awe of our amazing God.
