Pre-School Visits and Starting School

The following procedures apply to school visits for new entrants just prior to starting school:

  • That children who start in terms 2, 3 and 4 have 3 x ½ day transition to school visits.
  • That the first visit be a morning visit in the second to last week of term before starting.
  • That there be two afternoon visits in the last week of term before starting.
  • For children who will start at the beginning of the next school year, because there is a long summer break and because the end of year is very busy for assessments and reports, children will join in the primary school transition morning.
  • After the first term at school, children should be ready to be at school for 5 days a week. If a parent finds their child is not managing this, then we recommend that their child come to school on Wednesday morning and have Wednesday afternoon to rest.
  • That parents, whose children have been attending an ECE centre, submit the preschool transition to school report before their child starts school. These are very helpful for the class teacher and are now standard procedure for ECE centres.

At the beginning of the year, the Year 0-2 teachers invite parents to a meeting to explain the programme. Beginning 2023, we will invite all parents who have enrolled children to start during the year.
