Curriculum and NCEA at Ponatahi Christian School
Ponatahi Christian School follows the New Zealand Curriculum from Year 1 to Year 13. We are committed to providing high-quality, Christ-centred education that meets national expectations while serving the unique needs of our students.
We are actively engaging with current and upcoming changes to both the curriculum and NCEA. In 2025, we started implementing the refreshed English curriculum for Years 0–6 and the refreshed Mathematics curriculum for Years 0–8. In addition, we are considering how proposed changes to NCEA may affect our senior programmes in the years ahead. There are no immediate changes for students who are in Year 9 and above in 2025, and students currently working toward NCEA can be assured that it remains a strong and well-regarded qualification.
We continue to deliver our full teaching and learning programmes and are committed to introducing changes where they will benefit our students. Under the current NCEA proposal, students who are in Year 8 in 2025 would be the first group to experience the new qualifications in Years 11–13.
As more information becomes available, we will keep our community informed and continue to provide teaching that upholds both educational excellence and our Christian values.
