Some Key Historical Events

 

 

1978                   The Primary (Yr 1 – 8) School opens in a former Ministry of Education school in the area of Ponatahi, (situated about  20-minute's drive east of 
                        Carterton) with two staff and fourteen students.  

1984                  Secondary School opens with Years 9 – 10.  

1985                  Secondary School extends to Year 11

1992                   Secondary School extends to Year 12 (and Year 13 the following year)

1996                   The school moves to its current premises in Howard Street Carterton

1997                   The school becomes fully integrated into the New Zealand education system:  meaning, in short, that the Ministry of Education funds the
                       education of the school while allowing, and expecting, it to be done from our Special Character perspective.  

1997+             Over a number of years the new premises undergoes a steady process of renovation as every room is refreshed and adapted to our specific
                       needs eg: an indoor pool area is filled in and becomes an art room.  

2020                  New Staffroom and administrative area constructed

2022                   New College block built

 

By God’s grace the school continues till the present day as we aim to be a school that teaches students according to God’s Word while nurturing them in every respect.  Ponatahi Christian School does this so that the students may, by God’s grace, be enabled to serve God and society in their adult life beyond the formative years of their primary and secondary schooling.  

 

May the LORD be with us in the unknown future as He has undoubtedly been till now.
