Why Christian Education?

 

True education starts with being in awe of our Creator. Without Christ at the centre, learning lacks its firm foundation. Christian education intentionally nurtures reverence for God as the root of all knowledge.

The Bible teaches us in Psalm 78:7 that one of the purposes of education is that students might set their hope in God. Christian Education nurtures the academic growth of students. However, it goes beyond that by focusing also on spiritual well-being.

 

Anchoring Education in the Word of God

The foundation of Christian education is all that God has revealed to us in the Bible. As such it provides us with the sure foundation of a Biblical world view that influences all that we do.  

Therefore, Christian education does not start with human ideas or cultural trends, but with worshipping our Creator, and receiving and believing all He has revealed to us as the ultimate source of all wisdom, direction, and purpose.

Christian Education means that we teach the national New Zealand curriculum from a Biblical perspective. This ensures that every subject—math, science, English, technology, and beyond—is seen through the lens of God’s Word.

 

The Role of the Teacher

Ponatahi Christian School models its approach of teaching on the “perfect Teacher”: the Lord Jesus Christ. We follow His methods—questioning, storytelling, lecturing, teaching by example, concrete-to-abstract reasoning, and more—to guide and shape students.

Honouring God’s Design for the Family

Ponatahi Christian School acknowledges that children are entrusted to parents by God. We support Christian families in the responsibility of discipling through the nurture and instruction of the Word (Ephesians 6:4). At PCS, school and home work in harmony to nurture children in truth and grace.
