School Visits for New Entrants

Starting school is a whole new experience for new entrants and can be a little daunting at times. Therefore, it is our pleasure to assist you in making your child's transition to school as smooth, and enjoyable, as possible.

Please consider the following:

School Visits
  • Children who start in terms two, three and four may have three half-day school visits.
    • The first visit is a morning visit in the second-to-last week of the term before starting;
    • Visits two and three are afternoon visits in the last week of term before starting.
  • Children who will start at the beginning of a school year are welcome to join the primary school transition morning. (This is usually the Tuesday morning of the last week of school.)

Starting School
Transitioning to school life can be quite tiring for new entrants.   Therefore, new entrants are welcome to stay home on Wednesday for the first term to have some rest and refreshment. After the start of their second term, children are expected to attend school five days a week.  However, if a parent finds their child is not managing this, then they are welcome to take him or her home on Wednesday afternoon for some extra rest.   If anything beyond this proves to be necessary, this needs to be arranged with the teacher and management.

Early Childhood Education Reports

If your child has attended preschool and received a transition to school report, please give it to the new entrant teacher before your child starts school. These are very helpful for the class teacher and are now standard procedure for ECE centres.

Starting school
  • If your child turns five during term one, he/she is welcome to start school at the beginning of the term;
  • If your child turns five in the first half of terms two, three, or four, he/she is welcome to start school at the beginning of the respective term;
  • If your child turns five in the second half of terms two, three, or four, he/she is requested to start school at the beginning of the following term;
     (You will understand that this greatly assists classroom management.)

Year Designation

If your child starts school in terms one or two, they will be designated a 'Year 1 Student' and progress to Year 2 the following year;  however, if your child starts school in the second half of the year, they will be designated a 'Year 0' and will be Year 1 the following year.  However, management does reserve the discretion to make individual decisions based on the child's best interest.
