Ponatahi Christian School is a state-integrated area school, meaning that we have the privilege to provide education through the lens of our Christian Special Character from years 1-13.
Our school is governed by two entities – the Board of Proprietors (Proprietors) and the Board of Trustees (Board). The Proprietors maintain oversight over the Special Character and manage the property and buildings. The Board is responsible for the governance of the school.
Our school follows a distributed management model, where roles are split between the Senior Leadership Team(SLT) which is led by our principal, Mr Jaap Reijersen van Buuren. Included in the SLT are the leaders of both the secondary school (Mrs Karin Bosch) and the primary school (Mr Ronald Bertram), and the leader of secondary curriculum development (Mrs Michelle Vergunst).
Both the primary and the secondary school follow the National Curriculum (Te Mātaiaho) teaching this through a Christian lens. We assess students according to the National Certificate of Education Achievement (NCEA) in years 12 and 13, while also providing opportunities for vocational pathways.
Our overarching goal in all we do, is for students to be nurtured through their years of education, so that they can leave as a young adult willing and able, through the Holy Spirit, to serve God in our society.
