Fixed-term – Starting at the beginning of Term 3
Are you passionate about teaching in a Christian school? This is your opportunity!
Ponatahi Christian School is a coeducational, state-integrated area school (Years 1–13) with approximately 130 students, in Carterton in the Wairarapa. Our mission is to “Enable young people to serve God and society.” We seek to live this out by teaching and learning grounded in God’s Word, while nurturing students academically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally.
We are seeking a qualified, enthusiastic, and dedicated English teacher to teach Years 9–13, including NCEA levels 2&3. The successful applicant will demonstrate strong curriculum knowledge, effective classroom practice, and a commitment to fostering a love of language, literature, and critical thinking in students. The ability to design engaging programmes, assess student learning effectively, and support positive learning outcomes is essential.
You will teach the New Zealand Curriculum and NCEA in alignment with the School’s Special Character, maintain high expectations for learning and behaviour, and contribute positively to student wellbeing. A collaborative approach, clear communication with caregivers, and a commitment to ongoing professional growth are also important.
This is a fixed-term 0.7 position, commencing at the beginning of Term 3. The final timetable and classes will be determined during the appointment process. Flexibility to contribute to other areas of school life would be an advantage.
We offer a supportive and collegial environment where staff are valued, encouraged, and equipped to grow professionally. Collaboration is encouraged, professional learning is supported, and above all, we seek to honour the LORD in all that we do.
The terms and conditions, including base salary, are set by the New Zealand Area Schools’ Collective Agreement. The base salary for trained and registered teachers depends on qualifications and experience.
